Although similar events have been scams, this one appears to be legit.Long Island's original and most visited fall event, featuring The World's Longest Jack O'Lantern Trail, returns for our 10th season in 2023! So what the hell is going on here? Is it another scam, and if thats the case, are people being warned against falling for it?Įdit: Apparently this is NOT A SCAM. Just a facebook page with 170k likes, and their website which has a pretty convincing youtube video showing how their last "event" went. However, when you google this event nothing comes up about it being a scam. Now I am seeing advertisements for a "Water Lantern Festival" which is almost the same exact thing, but they plan on releasing the lanterns onto prospect lake. Heres an article that goes into some more detail about it: This company advertises an event (in the case of last year, a festival where you send off one of those floating lanterns) then they collect revenue from tickets for the event, before canceling the entire event promising to "reschedule" but this never happens. After seeing advertisements for the "Sky Lantern Festival" last year, I did some research and found out its just a really elaborate scam.
